UnsafeCosmeticsinSafetyGateRapidAlertSystem-Q32023-Lilial&Lyral

In the third quarter of 2023, more than 300 cosmetic products were classified as not safe according to Regulation (EC) 1223/2009. Except for three reports on microbiology, these are predominantly recalls due to chemical residues.

Specifically, these were:

-       p-Phenylenediamine (PPD) in excessive concentrations

-       prohibited fragrance Butylphenyl Methylpropional (Lilial)

-       prohibited fragrance Hydroxyisohexyl 3-cyclohexene carboxaldehyde (Lyral, HICC)

-       prohibited substance Hydroquinone

-       excessive level of mercury
