Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in cosmetics

Various PAHs can be detected as contaminants in cosmetics (e.g., benz(a)pyrene). These substances are partly classified as prohibited substances under Annex II of the Regulation (EC) 1223/2009, and other substances not listed in Annex II are also undesirable.

In general, these substances should only be present in cosmetic final products in quantities that are harmless to health and technically unavoidable. It is important that potential concentrations are considered in the preparation of the safety report, and that regular monitoring of both raw materials and final products takes place.

The experts at BAV Institute check possible sources of entry for you based on the INCI list. In cooperation with the international Tentamus Group of Laboratories, we conduct the investigation of PAHs in cosmetics and raw materials quickly and reliably for you.
