Recall: Undeclared Allergen Peanut
Annex II of Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011 (Food Information Regulation, FIR) lists the 14 most common triggers of allergies and intolerances that must be listed in the ingredients list of pre-packaged foods. Peanuts and products derived from them are listed under No. 5.
Consequently, if peanuts are present, they must always be highlighted (in accordance with Article 21 of the FIR).
In the present case, peanuts are present but not declared. For the assessment of allergen residues, the laboratories of the food monitoring have established assessment values based on which marketability can be determined.
A peanut allergy can have particularly serious consequences. A woman is said to have died from the kiss of her partner who had previously eaten bread with peanut butter.
