Salmonellaoutbreakin2023in16countries
According to the German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR), 90% of foodborne infections in recent years are attributed to salmonella. As a cause of gastrointestinal diseases, salmonella play a significant role worldwide. Common carriers of salmonella are primarily poultry, eggs, and pork.
In connection with chicken meat, an outbreak of salmonella was recorded in 2023.
To date, 335 confirmed cases have been reported in 15 European countries and the USA. In Germany, there were also 18 cases in this context, with a total of nine of the 335 patients requiring hospital treatment.
