Heavy metals in cosmetic products
According to the requirements of Regulation (EC) No. 1223/2009 and for the assessment of the safety of cosmetic products in the context of the safety report, information on possible heavy metal content plays an important role.
The metals arsenic, antimony, lead, cadmium, and mercury are mostly used to assess the quality of cosmetic products.
In 2016, the BVL (Federal Office of Consumer Protection and Food Safety) published technically avoidable levels of heavy metals as part of monitoring.
Other metals, such as the content of chromium and nickel, are also crucial for assessing the quality and safety of decorative cosmetics.
Within the Tentamus laboratory group, the BAV Institute regularly conducts the corresponding investigations using accredited testing methods and corresponding analytical methods (ICP-MS, AAS). The customer advisors at the BAV Institute are available to competently assist you in the interpretation and evaluation of the results.
