Stillusableunscreeensfrompreviousyear?Cautionwithoctocrylene
Are sunscreens from the previous year still safe and stable this summer and do they meet the requirements of the Cosmetics Regulation Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009?
For products that have not yet been opened, this is generally the case. Shelf lives are usually relatively long and marked with what is known as a PAO (Period After Opening). Caution is advised with products that have already been opened. Here the questions arise: does the product smell unpleasant? Does it look different than before? Has it changed color?
If sensory deviations occur, the products are no longer stable. Caution is also advised with products containing the UV filter octocrylene. Studies have shown that benzophenone, which is suspected of being carcinogenic, can form from this ingredient. Benzophenone will be banned in cosmetics from the end of 2023 (known as Omnibus Regulation).
