In June 2024, the European Commission decided, based on the evaluation of Bisphenol A (BPA) by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), to ban the use of BPA in materials that come into contact with food.

According to the German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR), no harmful health effects have been proven at current human intake levels.

The EFSA published a TDI value (tolerable daily intake) of 0.2 nanograms per kilogram of body weight per day in 2023.

There are no exemptions within the stated ban, e.g., for short-term contact.
