Summary of the BVL: Pathogenic Germs in Ground Beef in 2021
In 2021, 400 samples of ground beef were tested for pathogenic germs such as Shiga-toxin-producing E. coli (STEC) and Listeria monocytogenes within the scope of the zoonosis monitoring. STEC was detected in 6.7% and Listeria monocytogenes in 21.5% of the examined samples.
The Federal Office of Consumer Protection and Food Safety (BVL) recommends thoroughly heating ground beef before consumption and not eating it raw. This is the only way to prevent infections, some of which can take a severe course.
In our Tentamus laboratories, we regularly conduct testing for Shiga-toxin-producing E. coli (STEC) and Listeria monocytogenes and also offer serotyping. We provide you with fast and reliable results.
Our customer advisors are very happy to assist you with any questions.
