Advertising claims regarding the absence of certain substances in cosmetics
Currently, many cosmetic products feature marketing claims regarding the absence of certain groups of substances, such as preservatives, mineral oil products, silicones, PEGs, as well as individual substances such as parabens, aluminum, etc.
Such claims are legitimate if they comply with the requirements of Regulation (EU) No. 655/2013 (Claims Regulation). This legal text stipulates the conditions under which these claims can be used.
The "technical document on cosmetic claims" from 2017 provides specific guidance. As of July 1, 2019, the appendices from this document regarding the claims "free from" and "hypoallergenic" are applicable.
Even though the technical document serves only as a guide, discussions on this topic are expected to increase starting July 1.
