Allergen findings in vegan/vegetarian products

At its 78th work meeting, the ALTS addresses the issue: How should positive findings for allergenic components of animal origin (egg, milk, fish, crustaceans, and mollusks) be evaluated in “vegan” and “vegetarian” products?

The resolution suggests that in the case of the aforementioned positive findings, the indication “vegan” should be considered misleading. The same applies to the sole indication “vegetarian.” If it can be proven that these are unintended entries in technically unavoidable quantities, a misleading assessment should be disregarded.
