Allergens in Food – Assessment for the Year 2023
The Chemical and Veterinary Investigation Offices in Baden-Württemberg examined food for allergens in 2023. Allergens that were not labeled were found in 11.6% of the samples. However, only six of the 4400 samples in total were classified as potentially harmful to health for allergy sufferers.
Products offered openly are more frequently noticeable than food in prepackaged forms. Most commonly, milk and wheat were detected without appropriate labeling.
The reference values used for the assessment of the findings were recently adjusted. Due to their increase, a decrease in the findings to be pursued further is expected for the coming year.
