In its 115th session, the Expert Working Group on Food Chemistry (ALS) also dealt with the specification for determining the batch in frozen foods.

When placing frozen foods on the market, section 5 of the Regulation on Frozen Foods (TLMV) requires an indication to determine the batch. One possibility is to provide a lot or batch number. According to the ALS opinion, however, the batch can also be specified by the indication of the best before date with day, month, and year. According to the specifications of Regulation (EU) 1169/2011 (LMIV), this indication is mandatory in food labeling.
