ALTS – Advertising with "lactose-free" possible for raw ham?

The ALTS (Working Group of experts in the field of food hygiene and foods of animal origin) addressed the question during its 83rd workshop from June 24th to 26th, 2019, whether the labeling "lactose-free" on raw cured meats is legally permissible or if it constitutes advertising of self-evidence.

According to the ALTS resolution, lactose, albeit in small amounts, is used in the production of raw cured meats. Therefore, the manufacturer has the option to advertise his product with the label "lactose-free."
