ALTS decision on Yersinia enterocolitica in ready-to-eat foods

The resolutions from the 87th ALTS conference in June 2021 also addressed the assessment of findings of the pathogenic Yersinia enterocolitica (ALTS resolution 2021/87/16).

In its 2013 statement, the Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) already stated that no human-pathogenic Yersinia enterocolitica should be present in ready-to-eat foods. This avoids health risks to humans and better protects sensitive risk groups. Now, the ALTS also assesses a qualitative detection of the germ in ready-to-eat foods as unacceptably contaminated. It replaces its previous resolutions from 2009, 2010, and 2017, without resolving the contradiction between the reasoning and the assessment.
