ALTS:Is"Bacon"aDesignationForAFoodProduct?
Products labeled as "Bacon" regularly appear on the market. This raised the question of whether this is a designation of the food according to the FIC.
The ALTS has decided that "Bacon" is allowed as part of a descriptive designation. Here, "Bacon" is understood to be a cured, less or possibly not dried product made from pork belly. However, the descriptive designation must also include the type and use of the food. The indication "Bacon" is not used for products from other animal species, such as poultry.
