On 13.07.2017, the EU Commission published a notice that clarifies the labeling of allergens in several points. In particular, the Food Information Regulation No. 1169/2011 (FIR) contains no specific information regarding non-prepackaged foods. These gaps are closed by the notice. The national implementing regulation on labeling requirements (FIR AV), which came into force on 13.07.2017, also contains further details on this.

Further content of the notice includes a clarification of the list of allergens as well as information on the provision of allergen information for prepackaged foods. The notice has provided guidance for companies and national authorities in implementing the requirements of the FIR for providing allergen information.
