The European Commission has published the annual report of the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF). The number of notifications increased by 25% in 2014 to 3,157 compared to the previous year. In 751 of the reported cases, there was an acute health risk. The three most frequently mentioned were:
- Mercury in fish products
- Aflatoxins in nuts
- Salmonella in chicken meat
The rapid alert system allows authorities and food companies to respond as quickly as possible to food safety hazards. (Source: ec.europa.eu)
