Medicines – new document from EMA on titanium dioxide

 

On July 1, 2022, the EMA (European Medicines Agency) published a new document with questions and answers regarding the use of titanium dioxide (TiO2) in medicines.

The background is the ban of the compound as a food additive (E171). Despite the provisional approval of titanium dioxide for medicines, the industry is urged to seek alternatives.

The total of 5 questions and answers provide advice on how to deal with this substance in medicines in the future.
