Benzene in Flavored Waters - In BAV Newsletter 03/2013

According to information from Stiftung Warentest, benzene was found in 3 out of 25 flavored waters during tests. Benzene is considered carcinogenic. However, according to the assessment of the Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR), the health relevance at typical consumption amounts is low. Benzene can be formed from a reaction between benzoic acid and ascorbic acid.
