BetterVegan?
In 2016, more vegan products were launched worldwide than ever before. Germany, the USA, and the UK are pioneers in this booming market. While only 1 percent of newly launched food products were vegan in 2012, by 2016, it had already reached 13 percent, surpassing even vegetarian developments at 7 percent. However, not all vegan products are created equal. Katya Witham, Senior Food and Drink Analyst at Mintel, says: "German consumers are increasingly skeptical about the ingredients in meat substitute products, prompting companies to prioritize natural recipes with shorter ingredient lists. Complicated ingredient lists and additives could pose challenges for manufacturers if they do not begin to make their products more natural. There is already a range of innovative brands in this area offering 'Clean Label' meat substitute products made from natural ingredients. For manufacturers, it is important to leverage the benefits of different vegetables to design successful meat substitute products."
