Biofilms – a major hygiene risk for businesses and people!
Biofilms pose a significant threat in areas where hygiene is important. For example, if biofilms accumulate in the pipeline systems of food, cosmetic, or pharmaceutical manufacturers, they can pose an unpredictable health risk. This risk is even greater in medical facilities (hospitals, nursing homes…) with people in poor health.
Exactly what is meant by a biofilm depends on the definition. It is commonly understood as a microbial community at interfaces with an aqueous phase.
It is undisputed that biofilms regularly lead to uncontrollable hygiene problems, material damage, or even diseases caused by dangerous microorganisms!
