BLL/LAV: Publication of MOH Orientation Values
The LAV (State Working Group for Health Consumer Protection) and the BLL (Federation for Food Law and Food Science) have published guidance values for mineral oil hydrocarbons (MOH = MOSH, MOSH analogs, and MOAH) in the following food categories based on data from existing inspection results from surveillance and the food industry:
The guidance values should not be applied as fixed limits, but rather serve as a reference with a recommendatory character for the assessment of MOH in individual products. The explanations and application notes in the preamble to the guidance values must be observed. Furthermore, reference is made in this context to the "BLL toolbox for avoiding the entry of undesirable mineral oil hydrocarbons into food."
The introduction of guidance values aims to account for a ubiquitous and technically unavoidable "baseline load" of MOH in foods and create a standardized assessment of foods by surveillance, the supply chain, and product testers.
In our Tentamus laboratories, we routinely conduct analyses for mineral oil hydrocarbons. We provide you with fast and reliable results.
