Campylobacter in Food – Report on Zoonosis Monitoring 2017
No progress has yet been made in reducing Campylobacter spp. in the broiler chicken food chain. About a quarter of the neck skin samples (22.7%) from broiler chickens at the slaughterhouse showed high germ counts of over 1,000 CFU/g.
To what extent the introduction of the process hygiene criterion for Campylobacter spp. on broiler carcasses in 2018 will lead to an improvement in the situation will be shown by the ongoing investigations in the zoonosis monitoring. The detection rate of Campylobacter spp. in samples of fresh chicken meat was 51.5%, which is still at the same level as in previous years (2014: 54.0% and 2016: 47.2% positive samples).
