Cannabidiol (CBD) in Cosmetics: New Regulation in Sight – Regulation (EC) 1223/2009
The European Union is working on clear guidelines for the use of cannabidiol (CBD) and other cannabinoids and THC in cosmetics. The aim is a uniform regulation, with a focus on consumer safety.
Natural and synthetic CBD is not classified as a narcotic because, unlike tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), it does not have a psychotropic effect. Therefore, CBD can be used in cosmetic products if it complies with the THC limit of 0.3%.
However, national laws may impose additional requirements. Manufacturers of CBD products must meet strict requirements to ensure the safety and quality of their products.
