ChocolateiceinÖkotest-AnalysisforMineraloilcomponents(MOSH/MOAH)

In the June 2022 issue of Öko-Test, 20 chocolate ice cream varieties were tested.

The following test parameters were examined:

Mineral oil components

Mineral oil components were detected in two tested products. MOSH can accumulate in organs, particularly in the liver. The MOAH fraction includes, among others, carcinogenic substances. Further information on the source of mineral oil components in food can be found here.

Fat contaminants

Fat contaminants are process-related contaminants in food that have a harmful potential and are undesirable in food. The fat contaminants 3-MCPD and Glycidol were not detected in any of the tested products.

Additives

Among the additives, the controversial thickening agents carrageenan and "processed Eucheuma seaweed" were detected in two ice cream varieties. They are suspected, among other things, of causing inflammations in the intestine.
