Octocrylene is currently approved as a UV filter in cosmetics. According to Regulation (EC) No. 1223/2009, Annex VI, serial number 10, the substance may be used in sunscreen products up to a maximum of 10% in general and up to a maximum of 9% in sprays.

In September 2025, the European Chemicals Agency ECHA opened a consultation with the aim of limiting its use to a maximum of 0.001%. This consultation runs until March 2026.

The reason for the planned restriction is the potential damage to coral reefs when used by humans. In certain regions of the world (e.g., Hawaii), the use of this substance is already prohibited.

We test the content of Octocrylene in your products and keep you informed about further developments.
