Consumer Protection Agency: Victory in Lawsuit Against Misleading Meat Packaging
The Brandenburg Consumer Center filed a lawsuit against the supermarket chain Netto because a product made of pork had a photo of pigs on green pastures printed next to the livestock farming label with the lowest level 1. However, level 1 stands for conventional barn farming.
Following a warning from the Consumer Center, the livestock farming label was initially removed, but the image of the pigs remained. The court has now decided that the misleading depiction of pigs in a free-range idyll must also be removed. Images on packaging must not create a false impression and thereby gloss over the farming conditions.
