In February 2026, a total of 128 cosmetic products were classified as not safe for human health according to Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009. The classification was carried out through the EU Safety Gate portal.
The risks identified were:
- significantly increased total aerobic mesophilic count and contamination with Pseudomonas aeruginosa
- presence of the prohibited substance Trimethylbenzoyl Diphenylphosphine Oxide (TPO)
- presence of Hydroquinone, which can cause allergic reactions, and Clobetasol propionate, which is a corticosteroid and prohibited in cosmetic products
- excessive levels of mercury
- prohibited fragrance substances Butylphenyl Methylpropional (trade name Lilial) and Hydroxyisohexyl 3-cyclohexene carboxaldehyde (HICC)
- undeclared allergenic fragrance substances
- actual sun protection factor (SPF) significantly lower than the claimed SPF
- missing safety report
This extensive list clearly demonstrates the importance of regular monitoring and examination of both the cosmetic end products and the raw materials used in cosmetics.
