Cosmetics in the Safety Gate - January 2026
In January 2026, a total of 93 cosmetic products were classified as not safe for human health. The classification was conducted through the EU Safety Gate portal.
The identified risks included:
- Contamination of various products with the following bacteria: Pluralibacter gergoviae / Pseudomonas aeruginosa / Burkholderia cepacia
- Significantly elevated total viable aerobic mesophilic count
- Detection of the prohibited substance Trimethylbenzoyl Diphenylphosphine Oxide (TPO)
- Detection of hydroquinone, which can trigger allergic reactions
- Exceeded limit for the preservative phenoxyethanol
- Excessive levels of heavy metals lead and mercury
- Prohibited fragrance Butylphenyl Methylpropional (trade name Lilial)
This extensive list clearly shows the importance of regular inspection and testing of both finished cosmetic products and the raw materials used.
