Cosmetics in the Safety Gate – May 2026
In May 2026, numerous cosmetic products were once again classified as unsafe for human health. The classification was made via the EU Safety Gate Portal.
The following risks were cited:
- Detection of banned substances: Trimethylbenzoyl Diphenylphosphine Oxide (TPO), Benzophenone, Formaldehyde
- Detection of hydroquinone, which can trigger allergic reactions
- Detection of the preservative phenoxyethanol above the legal limit of 1%
- Banned fragrance substances Butylphenyl Methylpropional (commercial name Lilial) and Hydroxyisohexyl 3-cyclohexene carboxaldehyde (HICC)
- Undeclared allergenic fragrance substances
- Banned preservatives Methylisothiazolinone and Methylchloroisothiazolinone in leave-on cosmetics
This extensive list clearly highlights the importance of regular monitoring and examination of both the finished cosmetic products and the cosmetic raw materials used.
