Counter Sample Experts at our BAV Institute

According to the Federal Ministry for Consumer Protection and Food Safety, there are 42 official counter-sample experts in Baden-Württemberg. (As of December 2023) These experts can examine so-called official counter-samples. 

This is intended to give food manufacturers the opportunity to have samples from food monitoring checked by an external accredited laboratory. The counter-samples are taken by the food authority and provided to the laboratory. This means that if the food authority finds fault with a product, the food manufacturer can potentially prove through official counter-sampling that the product is neither harmful to health nor unsuitable for consumption. This provides double protection for producers and consumers. They verify and ensure the quality, safety, and legal basis of the product.
