Dioxin, PCB and furan residues in fruits and vegetables
After the explosion in a waste incineration plant in Leverkusen, the North Rhine-Westphalia State Environment Agency (LANUV) suspects that the released smoke cloud carried dioxins, PCBs, and furan compounds into the surrounding residential areas. The city of Leverkusen recommends that residents, among other things, refrain from eating fruits or vegetables from the garden.
Dioxins, furans, and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) are toxic chemical substances that are byproducts of combustion processes and can persist in the environment for a long time. They are found in the air, soil, or water sediments and can enter the food chain through these media. Dioxins and PCBs negatively impact the nervous, immune, and hormonal systems and can cause cancer.
At our Tentamus laboratories, we regularly conduct tests for dioxins, furans, and dioxin-like PCBs. We provide you with fast and reliable results.
Our customer advisors are very happy to assist you with any questions.
