Dioxins and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in food and feed

In 2020, a total of 475 food items and 132 feed samples were examined for dioxins, dioxin-like PCBs, and non-dioxin-like PCBs as part of official food and feed monitoring.

Only a few samples showed elevated levels of these dangerous environmental toxins. The legal limits were exceeded by one sample each of pig and cattle liver as well as one sample of eggs. Levels were comparatively high in wild boar livers as well as in venison and horse meat.
