Dioxins in Eggs: Higher Contamination in Organic Products Compared to Conventional Eggs
At the latest, since the "Dioxin scandal" in 2011, dioxins as industrial waste products have become known to many consumers. At that time, dioxins were found, among other things, in eggs from chickens that were fed contaminated feed.
Dioxins are persistent and harmful substances that accumulate in the environment and the food chain (especially in fat). Maximum levels for dioxins and dioxin-like compounds have been established in the Contaminants Regulation.
Today, animal feed is hardly contaminated with dioxins, which is why the contamination in food is also significantly decreasing.
In 2011, the Ministry of Social Affairs Baden-Württemberg informed about "10 years of organic monitoring", stating that organic eggs are slightly more contaminated with dioxins than eggs from conventional farming. The reason given is the environmental pollution with dioxins, to which free-range hens are more exposed than hens in conventional ground-based housing.
In our Tentamus laboratories, we regularly conduct tests for dioxins. We provide you with fast and reliable results. If you have any questions, our customer service representatives are happy to assist you.
