ECJ ruling: CBD is not a narcotic; products with hemp extract could soon be food
Hemp products with cannabidiol could in future be classified as food in the EU. The background is a judgment of the European Court of Justice from 11/19/2020.
CBD is not a narcotic and, according to the current state of science, has no harmful effects on health.
The Commission has therefore changed its previous stance that products with CBD cannot be food. The review of several authorization applications for CBD products as novel foods has been resumed.
The European Food Safety Authority EFSA will also conduct an assessment.
