EFSA publishes opinion on hazard analyses and HACCP for certain small food retail businesses and food donations (food banks)
According to the EU notice 216/C2778/01, the EFSA document of a simplified Food Safety Management System (FSMS) from 2017 has now been supplemented by a new statement regarding the simplification of food safety systems for small trading companies, supermarkets, restaurants, pubs, and food banks issued by EFSA.
Especially the aspect of food donations/food banks is extensively discussed with regard to shelf life dates and the possible extension of shelf life dates. The potential hazards in these industries should mainly be adequately managed with the help of PRPs (prerequisite programs). Some practical examples are explained, and it is illustrated for which controls written documentation is not required.
Overall, this EFSA document provides the respective businesses with an excellent overview and assistance in implementing legal requirements as well as food safety.
Please also remember your HACCP training obligations under Article 5 of Regulation (EC) No 852/2004 in this context.
