EFSA – Rapid Opinion on Another Outbreak Caused by Listeria monocytogenes
At the end of November, the EFSA and the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) published an opinion on another international listeria outbreak.
In at least two EU countries (Netherlands and Belgium), there have been at least 21 cases (including three deaths) between 2017 and August 2019, which most likely have the same cause or source. This can be deduced from the genetic relatedness and the temporal distribution of the cases.
The previous events indicate that the source of contamination is located in a Dutch production company. More information on the case can be found in the EFSA opinion.
In recent weeks, we have repeatedly highlighted important aspects for the prevention of listeria contamination (www.bav-institut.de).
In our laboratory, we regularly conduct testing for Listeria monocytogenes. We employ both a 24-hour rapid method, a 48-hour rapid method, as well as the ISO method in the accredited area. We provide you with fast and reliable results.
