EHEC outbreak in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern: Source still unclear.

EHEC outbreak in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern: Source still unclear.

The increase in EHEC cases (enterohemorrhagic E. coli strains) in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (MV) – as we have reported several times - is still not clearly explained. No suspicious food has emerged even after 60 detailed interviews have been conducted. The number of confirmed cases has increased again.

Shortly before the holiday on October 2, 2025, the Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) intervened and launched a revised version of “STEC/EHEC infections via food: Recognizing and preventing risks” with a release date of August 5, 2025.

The informative 9-page document provides information on all essential aspects of diseases caused by the special E. coli bacteria.

At the BAV Institute, we offer: Testing for Escherichia coli, STEC/VTEC including rapid methods. You benefit from our expertise, our advice, and our broad methodological spectrum (rapid methods, serotyping - also of O45 see above -, enrichment methods, etc.)
