EU adopts new Contaminants Regulation (EU) 2023/915

On May 5, 2023, the Regulation (EU) 2023/915 on maximum levels for certain contaminants in foodstuffs and repealing Regulation (EC) No 1881/2006 was published in the Official Journal of the European Union.

So far, regulations for maximum levels for certain contaminants in food have been established in Regulation (EC) No 1881/2006. This regulation has been amended several times in the past and significantly so. Since further supplementary regulations are now to be made, the Commission has decided to issue a completely new regulation and repeal Regulation (EC) No 1881/2006.

The essential points such as a ban on the marketing of products that exceed maximum levels and the prohibition of mixing remain in place.

Among other things, Article 3 has established a special procedure for dried foods.

The new regulation comes into force on May 25, 2023.
