EU protection for the term "Bergerzeugnis" - In BAV Newsletter 03/2014

The term “mountain product” is now protected in the EU as a quality designation. The individual requirements have been published in Regulation (EU) No. 665/2014. For example, at least 60% of the annual ration for ruminants must come from mountain areas, and for pigs, the proportion is 25%. The processing of milk and dairy products is allowed within a 30 km radius of the relevant mountain area. There is no EU “mountain product” logo planned at the moment.
