Exceptions from the mandatory nutritional declaration or nutritional labeling - decision aid
In its 80th meeting, the ALTS addressed the question of which foods are exempt from mandatory nutritional labeling.
For example, foods that are packaged at the point of sale at the consumer's request are exempt from this obligation (e.g., non-pre-packaged baked goods in a bakery outlet). Also, unprocessed foods such as vegetables and products for which nutritional information is not crucial for consumers' purchasing decisions (e.g., herbs and spices) do not need to carry nutritional labeling.
Foods, including those made by hand, that are sold directly by the manufacturer to the end consumer in small quantities can also be exempt from the mandatory nutritional labeling under certain conditions (e.g., in the context of direct marketing).
