What is Griseofulvin?

Griseofulvin is a metabolite of the mold fungus Penicillium griseofulvum with fungicidal properties. It can naturally occur in small amounts in foods contaminated with corresponding fungi (e.g., grains, nuts, spoiled fruits, and vegetables). Griseofulvin is also synthetically produced and used to treat skin fungal infections.

From 1966 to 1973, Griseofulvin was also approved as a plant protection product in the GDR. Therefore, the threshold value of 0.01 mg/kg of Regulation (EC) No 396/2005 for pesticides applies. Since Griseofulvin can naturally occur in very small amounts in foods, the source of entry must be determined for a conclusive assessment in the case of positive findings.

Griseofulvin has previously been detected in spices such as turmeric and cinnamon, as well as in spice blends like curry. In recent years, a positive finding has also been made in mate.

Analytical Detection

Thanks to state-of-the-art analytical techniques, Griseofulvin can now be detected within our pesticide multi-method with the following analytical parameters:

The extension of the multi-method allows for a more comprehensive analysis of pesticides to meet the increasing demands for food safety.

In our Tentamus laboratories, we regularly conduct pesticide analyses. We provide you with fast and reliable results.

If you have any questions, our customer advisors will be happy to assist you.
