Facilitated trade of organic products with the USA - In BAV Newsletter 03/2012
Since June 1, 2012, the EU and the USA have mutually recognized their respective certification standards for organic products. In Europe, this is regulated by the Implementing Regulation (EU) No. 126/2012. Exporters who ship their goods from the European Union to the USA must, however, ensure that no antibiotics have been used in animal husbandry. The agreement covers the areas of fruits and vegetables, wine, meat, and cereals. Both parties hope for easier access to the partner's market, a reduction in bureaucratic burdens, and cost savings as unnecessary certifications will be eliminated in the future.
