A food company from Lower Saxony filed a lawsuit against a fee notice that was issued for an official routine inspection of food monitoring. However, the Higher Administrative Court in Lüneburg dismissed the lawsuit and deemed the collection of fees for official routine inspections to be largely lawful.

It can be assumed that this trend towards charging fees for official routine inspections of food monitoring in Germany will continue to rise. The EU Control Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2017/625) also provides for the reasonable inclusion of food companies in the financing of official controls.
