Food alert: Contamination with STEC
Current Food Warning: Detection of Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli (STEC) in a fresh Mettwurst
STEC was detected in a fresh Mettwurst, which has led to a precautionary recall of some batches.
The abbreviation STEC stands for Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli. These are bacteria that produce Shiga toxins. Shiga toxins are potent cellular poisons that can lead to serious health issues such as bloody diarrhea or the hemolytic-uremic syndrome (HUS), which can cause kidney failure.
STEC is primarily transmitted through contaminated food.
At the BAV Institute, we regularly conduct testing for STEC and other microbiological analyses. We provide fast and reliable results.
