The Food Association has recently expressed its concerns over the proposal for the extensive restriction of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) under the REACH regulation. After consultations, hearings, and intensive discussions with various industries, the association emphasized the potential impact on the food industry.

Particularly worrying are the possible shortages and disruptions in the supply industry for machinery and plant engineering that could result from a PFAS ban.

A recently published VDMA position paper highlights that nearly all areas of mechanical engineering would be affected by such a ban, potentially leading to significant challenges for downstream users.
