Foodborne Disease Outbreaks in Germany in 2018 (BELA Report)

The 2018 annual report of the nationwide system for collecting data on foodborne disease outbreaks (BELA) has been published.

In 2018, a total of 416 foodborne disease outbreaks were reported to the RKI or the BVL. At least 2476 illnesses, 324 hospitalizations, and 11 deaths were associated with the outbreaks. As in previous years, the most frequent causes of disease outbreaks were Campylobacter spp. and Salmonella.
