Foodborne disease outbreaks in Germany
For 2017, the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) and the Federal Office of Consumer Protection and Food Safety (BVL) reported a joint report of 389 outbreaks with at least 2,277 illnesses. The outbreaks were attributed to
- 38% Campylobacter spp.
- 34% Salmonella
- 5% Noroviruses
- 3% STEC/VTEC/EHEC
- 2% each Hepatitis A, Hepatitis E, and Giardia lamblia
- 1% each Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus cereus
