Perfume-free baby wipes under scrutiny by Ökotest
In the Issue 07/2020 of the magazine Ökotest, a total of 30 baby wipes without perfume were tested. The products were specifically examined for ingredients such as polyethylene glycols and their derivatives (PEG/PEG derivatives), silicones, and synthetic polymers. The focus was also placed on the microbiology of the products since some were advertised as containing "up to 99% water". Furthermore, the content of preservatives was determined and tested for halogen-organic compounds and formaldehyde/formaldehyde-releasing substances.
22 products received the rating very good. One product received a rating deduction due to synthetic polymers and thus received a good. Five products were rated satisfactory because they contained halogen-organic compounds or PEG/PEG derivatives. One product each received the rating sufficient or insufficient.
The BAV Institute, as part of the international Tentamus laboratory group, offers chemical analyses in addition to microbiological tests.
