Harmful Listeria monocytogenes detected in shrimp - Product recall

Listeria monocytogenes was detected in a shrimp sample. The finding leads to a recall of the food product.

Listeria are widespread in the environment and can be detected on plants, in wastewater systems, as well as in the stool of healthy and sick animals. They are commonly found in raw foods (e.g., meat, poultry, milk, vegetables, fish, and seafood), but they are also significant in processed foods (e.g., meat and sausage products, smoked fish products, mixed salads).

These bacteria can cause very serious illnesses, especially in pregnant women, infants, the elderly, and sick individuals. The proportion of deaths occurring in these individuals is relatively high.
